Cabin fever is setting in, but we are staying busy in the classroom! Plenty of yoga and dance parties and even 10 minutes of recess time between our lessons have been keeping us on the move! We have a VERY busy month ahead of us!
Gallery 111: Silent Auction: March 2, 2019
Are you planning on attending? The Gala is this Saturday! Our class will be auctioning off a Teacher Treat. An after school field trip with Mrs. Martin to Cone! The lucky winner can choose a friend to come along with us to Cone! Details will be made with the winning party.
Mardi Gras Celebration: March 5, 2019
Have you heard about the mysterious package that arrived at the Branch? My family in New Orleans sent us a package with instructions to open on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, March 5! The kiddos are so excited. I also ordered king cake that we will snack on! The King Cake Tradition: Small trinkets are hidden inside the king cake, whoever finds the trinket, will be crowned king and queen of Mardi Gras.
Being from Detroit, I never celebrated Mardi Gras and certainly did not have a king cake! However, my husband was born and raised in New Orleans and his family is excited to share their traditions with "us northern folks". I ordered two king cakes, so we will crown a King and a Queen on Mardi Gras day. If your child should not eat king cake, please let me know. Also, if they can not eat king cake, but can "look" for a trinket in their slice, please let me know. Thank you all who have contributed a $2.00 donation for the king cakes!
Wacky Wednesday:
We will begin a month long author study on Dr. Seuss during the month of March. We will celebrate his birthday on Wednesday, March 6th with Wacky Wednesday. Students are free to dress "wacky".
We have brainstormed some ideas such as:
Pow Field Trip:
Our walking field trip is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th at 10:00 am.
Please be sure to turn in the signed permission slip and waiver from POW as soon as possible.
Kids should wear comfortable gym clothes and clean socks, as we will take our shoes off when we arrive.
Excused/ Unexcused Absence:
If your child is absent from school, please call the main office to excuse the absence. When I take attendance, I can only enter Absent/ Present/ or Tardy. Calling the attendance clerk will excuse the absence. Attendance is taken each day at 9:00 am.
Illustrator Project: Due: March 18th
The kids seem very excited for our latest take home project. We have been studying authors and illustrators all school year! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Be sure to follow the rubric on the assignment.
Upcoming Days off for Mrs. Martin
After almost 40 years in my childhood home, my parents are moving! They are both retired now and are moving closer to my sister and her family in central Michigan. They will also be closer to me in Chicago! There may be a Friday or Monday that I take off school to help them with the move. They are not able to do much of the heavy moving themselves, so my husband and I will be making many weekend trips to Detroit to help them pack. They close on their new house in mid April, where I may take another day to help with the move. I hate to miss school, but am confident Mrs. Johnson and a substitute can keep things in order and the kids active and learning. I will let you know if I will be out. Thank you for your understanding!
